The city’s standing committee on planning and economic development is recommending approval of a new pawnshop on Wyandotte Street East.
The Cash Boutique, a payday lender, is proposing adding a pawnshop to its operation at 1478 Wyandotte St. E.
The proposal, recommended as “good planning” by the committee, is being met with opposition from nearby residents. None of the opponents attended Monday’s meeting, but they sent a petition with 35 signatures saying the pawnshop will have a “negative impact on the area and neighbourhood.”
The committee’s recommendation will go to an upcoming meeting of council.
